Supernatural to Add Third Brother

This information has been posted several times in the Twitter, but there are still some questions about it so we thought we would add a blog entry for reference in case anyone has not heard of it.

Supernatural Adding a Third Brother?

Monday February 9, 2009
Jake Abel
TV Guide is reporting that Sam and Dean Winchester will team up with a third brother on the April 23 episode of Supernatural: an 18-year-old half-brother named Adam fathered by John -- presumably on one of his hunting trips. Adam will be played by Jake Abel (pictured), but what's not clear is 1) if Adam is who he claims to be, and if so, 2) how long he'll stick around. I think I speak for most Supernatural fans when I say 1) hopefully not, and 2) hopefully not long.

One good indication that this won't turn into a permanent trio is the episode's title -- "Jump the Shark" -- a reference to the notorious ploy of a desperate TV show (one that's "jumped the shark") introducing a young cast member to boost ratings. Such a self-aware title seems to indicate that it's all an in-joke. I hope.

  1. I hate spoilers. HATE.
So when I spoiled mahself and read about this a couple of weeks ago, I realized just how much I adore this show when my response was wanting TO PUKE. I cannot imagine the relationship of Sam and Dean being poked a little with another brother popping up. Makes me wonder if Kripke stuck the brother in there because perhaps Supernatural was actually supposed to end with Season 4. Y'know? Anyway... SAM AND DEAN OK NO ONE ELSE. D:

  2. Honestly, I agree with you. I hate spoilers too. I kind of took this though, since TV Guide was throwing it around, as more of a teaser. Being said, he's only scheduled for one episode, and that at least makes it a little better. They probably just want to shake us up a little, make sure we are still paying attention, because no one could possibly want to see another brother traveling around with them. It would ruin the whole dynamic they have going. So sure, bring him in, kill him off and then we can breathe easy knowing it's still Dean and Sam 4-eva! Ahem. I may be getting carried away with this response, but there you have it. I too adore the show and if they decide to eff it up we can carpool to Vancouver for some ass kicking.

Hahah! My comment was full of YOU SUCK and BLAH and I WANNA PUKE. Yours is more intelligible. ;-)
